Gary G. Erickson, BFA, M.Arch, OAA, Leed AP.

Position: Architect.

Gary Erickson is currently working for a large international design firm - YWA/IBI in Toronto.

Gary studied architecture first at Carleton University, and then finished with a masters in architecture from the University of British Columbia. He received an AIBC scholarship in academics and design in 1993.

He entered architecture as a graduate of Concordia University in Montreal, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art.

After university, Gary interned first with Baker McGarva Hart Architects, a planning firm in Vancouver, designing the False Creek North mixed use development with Concord Adex. Gary then relocated back to Toronto, where he finished his internship and early professional work with HOK Architects and Planners. At HOK he developed international perspectives on corporate architecture, as well as insights into high technology, and culturally sensitive design.

His most successful project to date has been the first phase of Dubai Marina, a six tower 800 unit mixed use Retail and Condominium project, finished in 2001. The Dubai Marina project has become one of the most well known developments in the Middle East; introducing Dubai to condominium ownership, within a self-sufficient environment, all along the banks of a new marina city for 100,000 people. Gary's role as senior design architect, was as a liaison with with HOK architecture and planning.

The influences of Vancouver style planning, cultural precedence in drawing and art history, and large scale corporate architectural practice can be felt in this first large middle east project.

After 2001, Gary went to New York to work with SOM's superior technical department, and detailed the cladding of the new home of AOL Time Warner, the twin towers at Columbus Circle.

Just before 9/11, Gary moved to Florida to work with HOK again in aviation and museum development to round out his building typologies.

Coming back to Canada in 2003, he worked with HOK Toronto on a 5 tower hotel project in Doha as a Sr. Design Architect.

Gary worked in his own practice for 2 years till 2008. He was hired as a design architect by Forrec Inc and Design International, both involved in large scale retail mixed use development.

Currently, Gary has joined YWA/IBI to work on multidisciplinary international projects.
